Xiaomi introduced its next-generation humanoid robot as a highlight at the launch event for the latest Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro smartphones. The humanoid robot demonstrated its capabilities by using its bionic hands to pick up the Xiaomi 17T Pro phone from the stage, zoom in using the volume button, and take photos of the audience.
Although this was a brief demonstration, it showcased that Xiaomi's robotics technology has reached a level where it can manipulate devices with human-like dexterity.
Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun stated that within the next five years, they aim to deploy large numbers of humanoid robots to replace workers in their factories, and they are already making progress in the Western markets.
Earlier this year, these robots were tested at a car factory's welding station, where they continuously performed welding work for three hours, matching the factory's set time standards and achieving a success rate of up to 90.2%.
The improvement in performance is due to major upgrades to the robot's hardware. The robot's palm size has been reduced by up to 60%, matching the size of a human hand, while its degree of freedom in movement has been increased by up to 64%.
Additionally, the robot is equipped with a complete palm-mounted sensory system, capable of grasping with over 150,000 cycles of durability, and features a bionic sweat gland system to withstand heat during prolonged operation.
Chairman Lei Jun stated that Xiaomi's robotics team has won first prizes in international competitions, and their primary goal is to develop humanoid robots that can work in the real world, not just in laboratories.
