A new report from Internet Matters reveals that British children are quietly deceiving online age restriction systems by using fake lip fillers and incorrect birth dates. According to the Online Safety Act's strict regulations, more than one in three children know how to bypass these age verification measures.
Among the 1,000 children surveyed, 46 percent consider bypassing age verification systems "easy," while 32 percent have actually done so and used the platforms. Although social media platforms restrict access to children under 13 and adult websites to those under 18, these children are lying about their age to gain access, with nearly half encountering disturbing and concerning content as a result.
Most troublingly, one in six parents are actively helping children commit age fraud. According to one parent's account, their child successfully deceived online platforms by applying fake lip fillers and claiming to be 15 years old. Currently, the British government is preparing to introduce stricter legislation for children under 16 years of age.
