The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the Oscar Awards, has announced new rules for the 99th Academy Awards ceremony.
According to these new rules, performances or screenplays created using AI will not be considered for awards. The focus is primarily on recognizing human creativity and human work.
Under the new rules for acting awards, only performances by human actors themselves with their consent will be eligible for consideration in entertainment categories.
In the screenplay category, only screenplays written by human screenwriters themselves, not those written by AI, will be selected for the Best Screenplay awards.
This represents a firm determination that while AI's role has expanded in the film industry, the source of creation must remain human.
However, the use of AI technology in film production is not completely prohibited. While technology can be used as a supporting tool, it will not be recognized as a creator.
When the Academy evaluates a film, it has the right to inquire in detail about how much AI was used, and will make decisions primarily based on the extent of human involvement.
