Amazon has been building its own satellite network in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for some time, and the project is named Amazon Leo. This service will compete directly with SpaceX's Starlink, which is currently the largest satellite network.
According to Chris Weber, Vice President in charge of Amazon's Leo project, over 390 Leo satellites have currently been launched, which is sufficient to provide services in basic coverage areas. Additionally, the necessary satellite launches have been successfully completed to enable early services to begin this year, so the company will be able to officially launch public services before the end of 2026.
Those who wish to be early testers of this service can already submit their names to the waitlist. Amazon will produce three types of weather-resistant satellite receivers for the Leo service: the Nano with download speeds up to 100Mbps, the Pro with speeds up to 400Mbps, and the Ultra with speeds up to 1Gbps.
