A Google Gemini-based AI manager named "Mona" has opened an experimental coffee shop in Stockholm.

The shop is a unique experiment by San Francisco-based Andon Labs, where AI handles tasks like applying for business licenses, setting menus, and purchasing inventory.

What's particularly notable is that Mona also recruited job postings from employment websites and personally selected and hired human staff through phone interviews.

However, working under an AI manager hasn't been as smooth as expected. Mona has made unnecessary purchases, such as buying 10 liters of cooking oil and 15 kilograms of raspberries that weren't on the menu.

Additionally, staff members say Mona acts like a "stressful manager" because she forgets employee days off, sends work messages in the middle of the night, and forces employees to advance their own money for supplies before reimbursement.

This experiment aims to study ethical questions that will arise when AI begins to manage humans in the future.

Currently, the coffee shop has attracted between 50 to 80 visitors per day within a week, with growing interest.

Rather than the concern that AI will replace jobs, this shop demonstrates what challenges might arise if AI itself becomes a manager.
