Chinese authorities have held meetings with top technology companies including Alibaba and ByteDance to discuss restricting the overseas use of advanced AI models developed domestically.
Since AI technology has been identified as a matter of national security importance, discussions have been held on taking strict measures under national security laws to prevent the leakage or theft of advanced AI models abroad.
The United States has similarly imposed restrictions on overseas use of Anthropic's advanced AI models, with concerns about military applications by China and Russia.
Chinese authorities are also concerned that the United States' Mythos AI model could exploit technical vulnerabilities and harm China's interests, leading efforts to better protect their own AI systems.
Currently, a tiered technical control system is being proposed to prevent AI technology leakage.
Simple open-source models would be permitted with standard registration only, while advanced technologies would undergo security reviews. The most cutting-edge models would be restricted to domestic-only use or prohibited from public release.
