Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD, which has gained fame in the EV world, has now begun taking steps into the humanoid robot sector. Come August, BYD's first humanoid robots will be introduced at Di Space showrooms. These robots are not merely display pieces, but will be able to directly interact and communicate with visitors who come to the showrooms. This represents BYD following in the footsteps of rival Tesla and preparing to break into the humanoid robot market.
It's not just BYD—other Chinese EV companies like Xpeng, Li Auto, and Xiaomi are also developing humanoid robots that can assist in factory operations, logistics, and elderly care. For example, Xpeng has set ambitious goals to produce over 1,000 humanoid robots per month by the end of 2026 and to distribute and sell them globally by 2027.
Currently, at the height of the technology competition between the United States and China, Chinese automakers are fiercely competing with Tesla in the AI-powered robotics sector. Although the US side has restricted the import of Chinese robots, there are nearly 100 companies in China engaged in humanoid robot production. Moreover, since China is able to capture over 70 percent of the global market, it is noteworthy that China maintains a leading position in the robot manufacturing sector.
