As AI technology infrastructure requirements increase, thieves are increasingly targeting valuable materials and equipment used in data center construction, including copper and high-value items.

Recently, Illinois authorities recovered two stolen trucks carrying data center equipment valued at $1.3 million near Chicago. The trucks had been reported stolen.

The stolen trucks contained copper cables worth $300,000 stolen from Alabama and data center equipment worth $1 million stolen from Florida.

This is just one instance of criminals targeting high-value technology equipment as AI data centers are being built more extensively throughout the United States.

In particular, copper cables, servers, and electrical equipment have become targets for thieves. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has stated that businesses lose up to $35 billion annually due to cargo theft, and experts assess that organized theft groups are increasingly focusing on technology and infrastructure transportation operations.
