ChatGPT Is Approaching 1 Billion Users

OpenAI's popular ChatGPT has hit a record high of over 900 million weekly active users (up from 700 million in September). Paid subscribers have also surpassed 50 million, and OpenAI's valuation now stands at $730 billion.
From 400 million users in February 2025, the number has more than doubled. Business accounts have reached 9 million — roughly 4 times what they were in September. Competitor Anthropic's Claude has reportedly seen a 60% increase in free users, though exact figures have not been disclosed.
ChatGPT's rapid growth demonstrates how deeply AI technology has penetrated the global digital landscape, surpassing Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude by a wide margin.
On the investment side, there have been some changes. Nvidia, which was earlier reported to invest $100 billion, will now invest $30 billion. However, OpenAI has announced that SoftBank will invest $30 billion and Amazon will invest $50 billion.
In January, ChatGPT introduced a new "Go" tier at $8 per month that includes advertisements — a move that competitor Anthropic mocked in a Super Bowl ad, declaring they would never do the same.
Regardless, the astonishing pace of AI advancement is both exciting and has fueled growing debate about responsible use and AI hallucination issues.
