China's bustling Fangchenggang border checkpoint has begun deploying UBTech Walker S2 humanoid robots equipped with advanced AI systems to take on various responsibilities.
These humanoid robots guide travelers crossing the border, organize people systematically in queues, patrol public rest areas, and assist with cargo transportation.
However, critical responsibilities such as security and law enforcement remain fully handled by human border officials, with the humanoid robots providing optimal support from the sidelines.
Deploying these high-performance humanoid robots involved a pilot project investment of up to $37 million.
They can walk naturally on two legs like humans and smoothly avoid obstacles on the road. Additionally, they have a self-replacing battery system that automatically swaps out depleted batteries, allowing them to work continuously for extended periods without downtime.
If this current trial proves successful, there is potential to see these advanced humanoid robots deployed across China's other border checkpoints, international airports, and busy transportation hubs in the future.
