In Hubei Province, China, a new sci-fi-like system is being piloted to issue official ID numbers to humanoid robots so that their entire lifecycle can be systematically controlled and managed centrally.
What's interesting is that the code number issued to each robot will contain up to 29 digits and letters, making it even longer than the personal ID cards carried by Chinese citizens.
This robot registration number encodes all the information such as which company manufactures the robot, what model it is, its hardware performance, and its intelligence level into a code.
This ID number will be linked to each robot's unique digital profile, and will simultaneously store all historical records such as where the robot has been deployed and used, and when maintenance and servicing have been performed.
As China's robotics industry is growing at an accelerated pace, this system is being implemented to maintain safety controls and ensure accountability and responsibility.
The key point is that if any accidents or incidents occur due to robots, it will be possible to accurately trace who is responsible, and it will also be able to prevent fraud when robots are resold or when their parts are reused.
This innovative pilot program is being led by the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center in Wuhan, with the support of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Currently, several leading robotics companies have already successfully tested and registered their robots in this system. Once national-level standards for this system are confirmed and finalized, and it is officially implemented nationwide, robots will soon be able to move about and operate with their own registered identities, just like people do.
