For food delivery workers who have to rush through rainy weather and scorching heat on the streets, good news has emerged. Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has begun introducing AI-powered smart helmets to make their workers safer and more efficient. This follows the footsteps of rival companies Alibaba and Meituan, with the helmets equipped with cameras that can assess surroundings and AI audio systems.
The best feature of these smart helmets is their usefulness during bad weather. When it's raining heavily, delivery workers no longer need to wipe their phone screens to accept new orders or communicate with customers—they can do it all with voice commands. Beyond that, the helmets can even provide voice-guided directions, read customer orders aloud, and inspect restaurant cleanliness.
Currently, JD.com will begin distributing these helmets for free to its full-time workers, with plans to equip all platform workers in the future. With over 100 million food delivery workers in China and intense competition in this market, companies are increasingly adopting AI technology to ensure worker safety and security. Meituan and Alibaba have already been widely using similar smart helmets since previous years.
