Chinese-based global e-commerce and technology giant Alibaba has filed a formal lawsuit against the U.S. government in response to the Pentagon's decision to blacklist the company, alleging it has connections with the Chinese military.
The U.S. Department of Defense has accused Alibaba of effectively operating as a proxy of the military by complying with rules set by Chinese technology regulators.
However, Alibaba has responded vigorously in California federal court, arguing that the decision is completely baseless in terms of facts and legal grounds.
Alibaba countered by stating that none of its independent board members have military connections, and that its operations are solely for e-commerce and cloud technology, not for weapons or intelligence purposes.
The company also pointed out that any international company operating in China, including American companies, is similarly required to comply with regional regulations in the same manner.
How this case will unfold remains interesting to see.
