China's National Supercomputer Center in Shenzhen's LineShine supercomputer has secured the top spot on the world's most powerful supercomputer list.

This marks China's first overtake of the United States since the latter half of 2017, and is reportedly 20 percent faster in computing speed compared to the previously top-ranked American El Capitan supercomputer.

Supercomputers are utilized for complex computations such as discovering new medicines, weather forecasting, and training AI models.

The LineShine supercomputer circumvents American technology blockades by exclusively using chips designed and manufactured domestically within China.

While most modern supercomputers use GPU chips produced by American companies like Nvidia, LineShine fully utilizes China's domestically developed CPUs and HBM (Hybrid Memory Cube) technology.

This represents a historic milestone in building a hardware and software ecosystem independent of foreign technology reliance.

However, technology experts caution that the current list is not necessarily the best benchmark for measuring a country's AI capability.

This is because the TOP500 list primarily measures traditional scientific computing, and most of the most powerful AI systems built by major American companies like Google and xAI are not included in the list due to security and commercial considerations.

Nevertheless, this achievement undeniably represents a highly impressive technological advancement for China's technology sector.
