Elon Musk, co-founder of Neuralink, has confirmed that Blindsight, a brain-computer interface designed to restore vision to people who are blind from birth, will begin human trials within the next 6 to 12 months. This technology works by sending signals directly to the visual processing region of the brain without using the eyes or optic nerves, meaning anyone with a normally functioning brain will be able to perceive light again.
Moreover, future advanced versions of this technology are expected to provide users with ultra-HD vision that is clearer and sharper than normal human vision, and will even enable the ability to see infrared rays, ultraviolet rays, and radar waves. Currently, Neuralink is conducting trials of another type of brain-computer interface designed for people with paralysis, but human trials for Blindsight have not yet begun.
Currently, the device is still in the experimental phase, so there is no expert-verified information confirming that it actually restores vision. Although the U.S. FDA has designated Blindsight as a Breakthrough Device that can accelerate research, this only expedites the technology's development and does not provide full certification guaranteeing the device's effectiveness.
