SpaceX, the company dreaming of making humanity a species capable of spreading across many planets, announced that CEO Elon Musk stated they could send thousands of people to the Moon and Mars within the next 10 years.
In an interview with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Musk firmly stated that they would work to resettle humans on the Moon within a few years, and afterwards would accelerate missions to transport large populations into space.
Additionally, within the next 5 years, they are expecting to send the first astronauts to land on Mars and are aiming to build permanent urban settlement bases on both celestial bodies.
To realize this ambitious strategic plan, SpaceX will primarily use the fully reusable Starship spacecraft for missions around Earth's orbit, to the Moon, and to Mars.
Although Starship has already set many historic testing and flight milestones, the estimated timelines that Musk unveiled are merely one of his future projections.
For this grand objective to become reality in the practical world, there will be challenging test flights that need to be conducted further, regulatory approvals from government agencies, and critical missions involving astronauts that must be successfully accomplished.
