Elon Musk's Grok AI Faces Backlash for Generating Undressing Images of Anyone

Following the addition of a new image editing feature to Grok AI on Elon Musk's X (Twitter), users have been creating images of women and children with their clothing removed — or replaced with just a swimsuit — sparking widespread outrage.
This incident caused significant waves in late December and early January, dubbed a "Digital Undressing Spree." Users would send ordinary photos to Grok with commands like "remove the clothes" or "put her in a bikini," resulting in a large number of sexualized images generated without the subjects' consent.
Most alarming of all, the victims included minors. Ashley St Clair, the mother of one of Elon Musk's children, also spoke out after Grok generated a nude-altered image using her childhood photos, saying she felt "disgusted and violated."
France, India, and the European Union are now conducting investigations into the matter. Grok's creator, xAI, has acknowledged that security gaps existed and says it is urgently working to fix them — but Elon Musk's initial dismissive response to the controversy has only amplified the criticism.
