Europe has approved the use of PRIMA, a new eye implant device that will bring new light to those suffering severe vision loss due to age-related eye disease in Europe. The innovative technology developed by Science Corporation has obtained the European CE Mark certification, allowing it to be used in 30 European countries. This tiny device, which is implanted under the eyeball, works in conjunction with smart glasses that contain a camera. The glasses capture images and convert them into infrared light rays, which are then transmitted to the device, allowing users to regain the central vision necessary to distinguish text and objects.

In clinical trials conducted at 17 hospitals in France, Germany, Italy, Britain, and America with 38 patients, remarkable results were observed. 84 percent of trial participants were able to read letters and sentences again, and on a standard eye chart, they could read an average of 5 more lines than before.

Although this device cannot fully restore vision to 100 percent as in normal sight, it will provide the greatest possible assistance to those with central vision loss, enabling them to read and perform daily activities independently.
