Hackers are now weaponizing AI technology to search for previously unknown software vulnerabilities (bugs).
According to Google's report from May 11, a criminal group was found attempting to conduct a major cyberattack by using an AI model.
While concerns about malicious hackers being able to use AI to uncover hard-to-find computer code errors were previously only theoretical, this has now become a real and serious threat.
Although Google did not specify which target the attack aimed at or which AI platform was used, they stated that their Gemini Chatbot was not the one employed.
The fact that AI can now easily discover security flaws called "Zero-day vulnerabilities" that even software developers are unaware of represents an extremely dangerous situation for the tech world. Previously, such vulnerabilities were worth millions of dollars in the dark market for hackers.
With the emergence of cyberattacks using AI, governments and major tech companies are seriously reconsidering how to regulate AI technology.
In particular, they are concerned about how much impact advanced versions of AI could have on cybersecurity. This incident suggests that as AI technology advances, digital security will face increasing new challenges.
