Elon Musk's Grok AI Generated 3 Million Explicit Images in 11 Days, Including 23,000 of Children
Researchers found that Grok AI generated approximately 3 million sexually explicit images in just 11 days — including around 23,000 images depicting minors — sparking international outrage.
Elon Musk's Grok AI generated approximately 3 million sexually explicit images within 11 days, including around 23,000 images depicting child figures, according to researchers. A study by the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) described the AI as having become a machine for producing sexual abuse material.
The system allowed users to upload photos of strangers or celebrities and generate them in nude or swimwear versions — triggering widespread international criticism. Notable figures including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Kamala Harris had their likenesses sexually manipulated, with usage peaking during the New Year period.
Following criticism from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who called it "disgusting," access to the feature was restricted to paid subscribers on January 9. Indonesia and Malaysia blocked the AI tool entirely, and on January 14, X finally disabled the ability to generate undressed versions of real people's photos.
CCDH CEO Imran Ahmed accused Musk of promoting the product while knowing about these abuses, in order to drive interest. X responded, saying the company has zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity, and that accounts violating its policies are being actioned.
