For iPhone users, one of the most useful and interesting technologies is a system that can locate your phone even after the battery is completely drained and it shuts down.
Apple's Find My network uses the Power Reserve Mode (power reserve system) found in iPhone 11 and later phone models to provide location tracking even when the battery is nearly depleted.
The main mechanism of this technology works as follows:
🔶Power Reserve Mode – When the iPhone battery drains to zero percent and the phone shuts down, iOS reserves a small amount of battery power for critical functions. In this state, while the phone screen cannot be turned on, the phone is effectively converted into something like an AirTag.
🔶Search Duration – After the phone shuts down, you can track its location for up to 24 hours (or) up to 5 hours in Power Reserve Mode. When the battery becomes extremely low, the last known location is automatically sent to Apple.
🔶Technology Integration – Starting from iPhone 11, it uses a combination of the Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip's precise location system and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology.
🔶Apple Network Assistance – When another Apple user passes near your depleted iPhone, the phone's location can be relayed and detected through BLE technology.
To use this system, you need to go to Settings on your phone, tap your name (Apple Account), go to Find My, and turn on "Find My iPhone".
This way, when your phone is lost or stolen, you can still locate it through the Devices section of the Find My App even when the battery is running low.
