During training for the World Humanoid Robot Games being held in Beijing, a humanoid robot lost control and crashed forcefully into a barrier. The impact caused the robot to fall backward, catch fire, and break into two pieces.
This incident occurred during test runs before the competition begins on August 22. In previous test runs, organizers placed barriers at the end of the course because the robots tend to overspeed, but they were unable to fully prevent such severe collisions. Social media users who saw the footage made various humorous comments about the robot's condition.
The competition, which began in 2025, has returned this year on a much larger and grander scale. A total of 666 teams with 2,056 robots will participate, and the robots will be thoroughly tested and compared for their speed, balance, control capabilities, and movement performance.
