An 80-year-old mother in China was thought to be having video calls with her deceased son, but in reality, the person she was communicating with was an AI clone arranged by family members.

Her son had died in a car accident, but because the mother suffered from heart disease, relatives were concerned about the emotional shock, so they kept the news hidden from her.

The AI created using the son's information replicated both his voice and appearance, and deceived her by explaining that he had moved far away and therefore couldn't visit in person, giving the impression that her son was still alive.

The scene of the elderly mother unknowingly telling the AI "Mom misses you so much, please call me more often" is truly heartbreaking.

Regarding this matter, such deceptions in elderly care have become ethically controversial.

Critics warn that using AI this way to deceive could ultimately cause even more severe psychological trauma than learning the truth.

Whether using technology to replace deceased loved ones in this way is well-intentioned or cruel deception has become a subject of debate.
