Meta has entered the humanoid robot race alongside AI models and virtual worlds. Meta has acquired Assured Robot Intelligence (ARI), a startup that develops AI models for humanoid robots.
Following this acquisition, ARI's research scientists, including Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, will join Meta's Superintelligence Labs division to develop advanced humanoid robot intelligence and control systems.
ARI focuses on developing the "brain" of robots—AI systems that enable machines to understand their environment, predict actions, learn from experience, and adapt to operate among humans. The technology aims to enable future humanoid robots to perform real-world tasks, including physical work and household chores, more effectively. The acquisition amount for this startup with about 20 employees has not been disclosed.
With this acquisition, Meta has accelerated its entry into competition with major tech giants like Tesla, Google, and Amazon, which are also competing in humanoid robot technology.
However, Meta has not announced plans to sell humanoid robots. Instead, the company is primarily focused on developing AI technology that will power future robots.
