Meta's social network platform Threads has announced that it has reached 500 million monthly active users just three years after its launch.

This has reached nearly half of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's goal of acquiring 1 billion users to compete with Twitter, and contrasts with external estimates that Threads' user numbers are declining.

Among the changes that have emerged since Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, Threads has shifted from avoiding political issues to attempting to become a more culturally and politically important platform.

Due to its integration with Meta's other popular apps such as Instagram, Threads' user numbers have steadily increased, and it is now reported that more users are accessing Threads directly rather than through other apps.

Additionally, to attract audiences, Threads has been inviting famous artists and athletes, and recently the globally renowned K-pop group BTS opened an account on Threads and acquired over 4 million followers within a period of days.

Particularly in South Korea, app usage time has increased by over 80 percent within a year, and the platform is achieving momentum and success in the Asian market.
