According to a new study by Pew Research Centre, 35% of new web pages on the internet are written using artificial intelligence (AI). This situation further raises concerns about the "dead internet theory," which suggests that machines are increasingly creating and using the internet more than people. Last summer, Cloudflare also announced that AI bots have surpassed human users in internet usage for the first time.

For this study, nearly 500,000 English-language web pages published over the past five years were analyzed using an AI detection tool called Open Pangram. The analysis found AI-generated markers in 10% of the total, but in pages published after ChatGPT's release, AI usage reached as high as 35%.

While AI detection tools are not always accurate, such large-scale analysis reflects the general situation on the internet. Notably, AI-commonly used words and phrases like "delve" and "interplay" have shown significant increases. Additionally, the study found that AI usage is not uniform across all domains, with .com sites showing twice as much AI content as .org sites, and ten times more than .edu or .gov sites.
