A 22-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with the case known as the Gangbuk Motel Serial Deaths in South Korea. The woman, identified as Kim, had previously researched on ChatGPT whether mixing prescription sleeping pills with alcohol could be lethal before carrying out the crimes. Kim drugged the drinks of men she met at motels in the Gangbuk district of Seoul by mixing sleeping pills into alcohol. Two men died and one lost consciousness as a result. When police examined her phone, they found evidence showing she had repeatedly asked ChatGPT questions such as what would happen if sleeping pills were mixed with alcohol, how many pills would be needed to be dangerous, and whether the combination could kill a person. Initially, Kim denied knowing the mixture could be fatal. However, the digital trail of her ChatGPT searches proved she had intent to kill. The first death occurred on January 28, and a second man died on February 9. Police investigations also revealed that Kim had drugged a former boyfriend using the same method back in December 2025. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether the death toll may be even higher. In this case, the digital footprint left by ChatGPT searches played a central role in identifying and apprehending the suspect. Ref: Chosun
