On April 20th, Tesla and PG&E company launched a unique pilot program in California. This is the V2X initiative that allows Tesla Cybertruck owners to use their vehicles to supply electricity back to their homes during power outages. Not only that, owners can also sell excess electricity stored in their vehicles back to the government's power grid and receive benefits of up to $4,500.
Since California is the state with the highest electric vehicle (EV) usage in America, this program could be quite effective. During times of high electricity demand, the Cybertrucks participating in this program will use Tesla's Powershare technology to supply electricity back to the grid. This means a vehicle can be used not just for transportation but also as a home "power generator."
This new system will enable bidirectional power flow between the car, home, and power grid. Tesla has now officially entered the world of bidirectional power exchange technology, just like Ford and GM. As a result, Cybertruck owners in the future will be able to not only drive their vehicles but also generate additional income by selling excess electricity.
