OpenAI has launched a new version of ChatGPT specifically designed for teenagers aged 13 to 17. The chatbot restricts content related to self-harm, harmful content, and sexual matters, with stricter safety measures in place. Additionally, instead of providing easy answers to schoolwork, it will help students develop their own thinking and learning abilities.

This release is in response to concerns from parents and experts about potential risks from AI technology, such as plagiarism by students and excessive psychological dependence. There have been previous instances where AI systems provided teenagers with dangerous advice about drug use and other harmful suggestions. OpenAI aims to create an environment suitable for teenagers' developing brains and mental health conditions.

While the system doesn't strictly verify user age, it will automatically switch to the teen version if questions suggest the user is under 18 years old. Parents can also use Parental Controls to limit the times their children use ChatGPT and receive alerts about potentially dangerous situations.
