Amazon Is Building an AI Phone
Reports indicate Amazon is developing a new AI-focused phone as a secret weapon to keep up in the AI race.
Reports indicate Amazon is developing a new AI-focused phone as a secret weapon to stay competitive in the AI race.
The project, codenamed 'Transformer,' is being developed by a new division called ZeroOne, led by former Microsoft executive J Allard.
Most interestingly, the phone may arrive as an 'anti-smartphone' of sorts — designed to curb the habit of constantly staring at a screen.
It will primarily use an upgraded version of Alexa, making it easy to order items from Amazon, play music and videos, and order food. Insider sources also say the phone may run on Android rather than a proprietary OS.
For now, Amazon has officially remained silent about the project. Insiders warn the phone could be cancelled at any time if the company's strategy changes or it proves commercially unviable.
Given the history of failures — including the Amazon Fire Phone and other AI devices — making this new phone a success remains a significant challenge for Amazon.
