A 48-year-old barbecue restaurant owner named Ma Jianping from northwestern China has suddenly become famous online because of his resemblance to Elon Musk, the world's richest person. A video he posted on the Douyin social network on July 26 received over 1.3 million likes, which attracted special interest from people.
His small restaurant in Shanxi Province, which he operates, was once quiet but now sees double the number of visiting customers and business. Visitors tend to take photos with him and shake his hand, which makes him feel shy and anxious. However, despite becoming famous, customers praise him for not raising his prices.
Many business owners have approached him to collaborate, but he has no plans to do live-streaming and intends to continue prioritizing his restaurant business. Although images and posts comparing him to Elon Musk are circulating online, he continues to diligently work on his barbecue job from 9 in the morning until late evening.
