Tesla's CEO Elon Musk has stated that their Full Self-Driving (FSD) system is 10 times safer than human driving and can reduce global vehicle fatality rates, which currently claim nearly one million lives annually, by up to 90 percent. However, Tesla has not yet released specific data to support this claim.
Experts are criticizing Elon Musk's comparisons, arguing that they could be misleading due to variations based on road types, vehicle age, and driver conditions. Independent studies have also found that while Tesla's safety superiority of up to 10 times has not been substantiated, the actual figures are considerably lower than that amount.
On the other hand, Tesla is facing lawsuits claiming that accidents have occurred due to the FSD system and that drivers have been provided with misleading information. This contradicts Elon Musk's statements that safety improvements are increasing.
