The SunZia Wind project, the United States' largest wind power electricity generation facility, has now begun commercial operations in New Mexico, planting a new milestone for the renewable energy sector. The project includes 916 wind turbines with a total power generation capacity of 3,650 megawatts, making it the highest capacity wind power facility in the United States. Located in central New Mexico, it will be able to generate nearly one million households worth of electricity annually.
The electricity produced will be transmitted to energy markets in Arizona and California through the SunZia Transmission Project, a high-voltage power transmission system spanning 550 miles (885 kilometers).
The project was designed and constructed by Pattern Energy over nearly 20 years, with a total investment of approximately $11 billion USD, making it one of the largest renewable energy investments in American history.
