Apptronik, an American robotics technology company currently valued at over $5.5 billion USD, has opened a large "Robot Park" spanning nearly 90,000 square feet in Austin, Texas.
The facility is a major AI training center designed to train next-generation humanoid robots to operate in real-world industrial environments.
Currently, Apptronik's humanoid robots called "Apollo" are intensively training in warehouses, factories, retail stores, and logistics environments designed to replicate actual workplaces, performing tasks such as transporting boxes, sorting items, and moving merchandise.
What makes it unique is that many of these training sessions are patiently guided by human operators, which allows the robots to collect vast amounts of valuable real-world data for their systems.
From this data, the robots' AI systems and autonomous decision-making capabilities will become increasingly sophisticated over time. For this reason, Apptronik refers to this center as a "data factory" that will drive the rapid development of next-generation humanoid robots.
The company, which has backing from tech giant Google DeepMind and car company Mercedes-Benz, believes its humanoid robots will be able to best help address the labor shortage problems currently facing industries such as manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics.
Additionally, as Apptronik prepares to distribute its robots more widely in the market, the company is also planning to open additional new robot parks.
