Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologized to the Indian government for the presence of child sexual abuse material and deepfake content on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The apology was made during a meeting between Meta executives and Indian government officials held on Monday.

In July, the Indian government ordered Meta to remove advertisements and content that promoted child sexual abuse on Instagram. Additionally, the government demanded that Meta provide clarification within seven days on why such content was permitted on their platform.

In another incident, Meta's global affairs chief apologized to India's technology minister for incorrectly restricting a post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recently, India has imposed stricter digital content regulations, reducing the timeframe for removing unlawful content from 36 hours to three hours. Failure to comply would result in the removal of legal protections under the law.
