Google, the biggest name in navigation maps, gave Google Maps a major upgrade on Thursday. This time, in addition to the AI-powered Ask Maps feature using Gemini, it also introduced Immersive Navigation — featuring 3D scenes, detailed road information, and natural voice guidance. These changes will significantly transform how users experience navigation. The new Ask Maps feature acts like your own personal assistant. You can ask complex questions in natural language and customize trip planning. Even more impressive, it can provide personalized suggestions based on places and information you've searched before. Currently, this great feature is available to Android and iOS users in the US and India. Immersive Navigation is also genuinely innovative. You'll see nearby buildings and terrain in vivid 3D, with detailed information like lanes, crosswalks, and traffic lights clearly displayed. It also features a wide-angle view to help drivers prepare for turns and curves in advance, along with natural, human-like voice guidance. Real-time traffic and alternative routes will also be shown using data from Google Maps and the Waze community. Google Maps VP Miriam Daniel explained that Immersive Navigation transforms the entire navigation experience to make even unpredictable trips easy and certain. The feature has launched in the US and will gradually expand to iOS, Android, CarPlay, and Android Auto in the coming months. Ref: Techcrunch
