Apple MacBook Air Hit by Artillery Shrapnel Keeps Working
A Ukrainian soldier shared photos of an Apple MacBook Air that took a direct hit from artillery shrapnel — and still kept working.
A Ukrainian soldier shared photos of an Apple MacBook Air that was struck by artillery shrapnel but continued to operate. The post on X was shared by @lanevychs of the Azov Battalion, who said the incident involved a 2020 M1 MacBook Air.
The photos show a hole punched through the laptop's aluminum chassis consistent with a high-velocity impact. The exact circumstances of where the laptop was located were not specified, but the damage suggests a direct hit.
Despite the severe impact, the MacBook Air was not completely destroyed. It could still be powered on and parts of the display continued to function. The screen was damaged around the impact zone, but the machine remained in a usable state. However, the owner noted that repairing it would cost about as much as buying a new one.
Apple uses recycled aluminum for lightweight durability — not for bullet resistance. A similar incident occurred during the 2017 Fort Lauderdale airport shooting. These are rare cases, but they demonstrate that electronic devices can sometimes be more resilient than expected.
